Biography

UMFANG is a Brooklyn-based electronic music producer and DJ, known for her unique blend of techno and experimental sounds. Born Emma Olson, UMFANG has been an influential figure in the underground electronic music scene since the early 2010s.

UMFANG first gained recognition as a member of the Brooklyn-based collective Discwoman, which aims to showcase and support women and non-binary artists in the male-dominated electronic music industry. Through her work with Discwoman, UMFANG has helped to promote diversity and inclusivity within the electronic music community.

As a solo artist, UMFANG has released several EPs and albums on labels such as 1080p, Allergy Season, and Ninja Tune. Her music is characterized by its hypnotic rhythms, intricate textures, and immersive soundscapes. UMFANG’s DJ sets are also highly acclaimed, known for their dynamic energy and forward-thinking track selection.

In addition to her work as a musician, UMFANG is also a co-founder of the record label Technofeminism, which aims to promote and support women and non-binary artists in electronic music.
