Sun Ra, born Herman Poole Blount in 1914, was a self-taught pianist and composer who claimed to have come from Saturn. His music was a unique blend of jazz, free improvisation, electronic experimentation, and elements of various other musical genres. Sun Ra’s compositions often featured complex arrangements, intricate harmonies, and a futuristic, cosmic sound that set his music apart from the rest of the jazz world.
