Scald was a Russian epic doom metal band formed in Yaroslavl in 1993. The band was known for their unique blend of traditional doom metal with elements of Russian folk music and epic poetry. The band’s lineup consisted of Maxim “Agyl” Andrianov on vocals, Alexander “Magnus” Vasilenko on guitar, Sergey “Lazar” Atrashkevich on bass, and Vadim “Vetrodar” Motov on drums.
Scald released their only full-length album, “Will of the Gods is Great Power,” in 1996. The album was highly acclaimed in the underground metal scene for its epic compositions, powerful vocals, and atmospheric storytelling. The lyrics of the album were inspired by the poetry of Russian writers such as Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Tyutchev, adding a unique cultural dimension to their music.
Despite their critical success, Scald disbanded in 1997 due to internal conflicts and personal reasons. However, their legacy lived on in the underground metal community, with “Will of the Gods is Great Power” becoming a cult classic among fans of epic doom metal.
In the years following their disbandment, Scald’s influence continued to grow, with their music inspiring a new generation of metal bands. While their time together was short-lived, Scald left a lasting impact on the genre with their powerful music and unique blend of traditional doom metal with Russian folklore and poetry.
