Biography

Menahan Street Band is an instrumental music group based in Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 2007, the band consists of a talented group of musicians who have made a name for themselves with their unique blend of soul, funk, and jazz-inspired sounds. The band’s lineup includes members from other notable groups such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Budos Band, and Antibalas.

Menahan Street Band gained widespread recognition with the release of their debut album, “Make The Road By Walking,” in 2008. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike, with its retro-inspired sound and cinematic feel. The title track was famously sampled by rapper Jay-Z for his hit song “Roc Boys (And The Winner Is…)”.

Since then, Menahan Street Band has continued to release critically acclaimed music, including their sophomore album “The Crossing” in 2012 and “The Exciting Sounds of Menahan Street Band” in 2021.
