Biography

Ibeyi is a French/Cuban musical duo consisting of fraternal twin sisters, Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, both born December 13, 1994 in Paris, France and founded 2013. The twins’ father was the famed Cuban percussionist, [a=Miguel “Angá” Díaz] and their mother and manager is French-Venezuelan vocalist [a=Maya Dagnino].

The duo’s sound combines Yoruban music with elements of jazz, pop, soul, gospel and hip-hop and the lyrics are sung in several languages including French, Spanish, Yoruban (from which the band’s name derives. [i]ibeyi[/i]=”twins”) and English. Lisa-Kaindé is lead vocalist and pianist while Naomi is the percussionist (cajón and batá).
